Some Really Bad Taglines

Patrick McEvoy of Rainmaker Best Practices wonders about who thought of these really awful law firm taglines? (McEvoy doesn’t name names, but you can find many of the taglines that he uses as examples and their respective owners on this list.)  So what’s McEvoy’s test for a good tagline?  Basically, it’s a phrase that says something about the company and isn’t just a bunch of randomnly generated words.

By the way, the same holds true for taglines for blogs (someone likes ours!).

Carolyn – Great post. For a truly random, and frightfully realistic, tag line generator, go to Ross Fishman’s site:

What’s a stupid tagline? I’m so glad you asked, because Carolyn Elefant has been reading Some Really Bad Taglines, and sends you right off to learn from Patrick McEvoy yourself. Before you link away from her, however, don’t miss the

Patrick McEvoy of Rainmaker Best Practices is absolutely right. Not only are these 100 of the worst tag lines I have seen, but a very quick glance at a few of them quickly indicated to me that many of them also violate attorney ethics rules in many states.
I did not look at all of the tag lines, however, just a few of the tag lines which will violate ethics in some states are:
    Out in Front
    Insuring Your Life’s Needs…
    Trust. Commitment. Integrity.
An Indiana Law Firm Since 1234AD…
Developing Winning Strategies, in the Boardroom and the Courtroom
…one of the Nation’s leading law firms.
Big firm experience, small firm attention.
    Experience. Expertise. Excellence
    Attorneys who make things happen
    Problem Solved
    Commitment to Excellence
One of America’s leading law firms to business

That is truly funny. One would think that a small amount of time can be spent thinking of a pertinent tagline.
Wait… I better go check mine before I speak!
