Of Interest to Solos

Here’s a round up of free or low cost events or ideas for solo and small lawyers:

1.  Ari Kaplan is offering a free webinar TOMORROW, Thursday 10/29 from 1 – 1:30 called "5 Easy Ways to Create Opportunity in a Down Economy."  You can register here.

2.  If you’re in the New York area, on November 5, 2009, the Small Law Firm Center of the New York City Bar is hosting the 6th Annual Law Practice Management Symposium for Solos and Small firms entitled “Jumping in and Staying Afloat in Your Solo or Small Firm Practice”. The Symposium will be held at the House of the Association at 42 West 44th Street, NY NY. It  will last from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.  The workshops, which will be divided into two tracks, will include information on office space, entity choice, tech support, equipment, marketing and networking “on and offline” and finance.  For more information, here’s the link.  The cost of attendance is $25 for New York City Bar members ($50 for nonmembers) and includes admission to all workshops, exhibit hall, breakfast, lunch and the music reception.

3.  Looking for an inexpensive online solo/small firm community with benefits?  Check out California solo Jonathan Stein’s Solo Lawyer listserve. It’s $20 for lawyers and Jon has already offered benefits to the list –  such as a free webinar with Grant Griffiths and a discount on Law Charge – which already exceed the cost of entry.  To join, follow this link:  http://www.discussthis.com/subscribe/sololawyer@solo-lawyer.com

4.  Want to get free coverage in the New York Times?  Take a look at my Nolo .legalmarketinLegal Marketing Blawg post.

Do you have an event that you’d like to broadcast to solo and small firm lawyers?  If the event is free, I’ll generally post it, no questions asked time permitting (though I reserve discretion to reject posts).  If the event costs money, it’s got to be pretty special to warrant a link, but I’m willing to consider it.

Just an FYI, I tried to sign up for the California listserv, and it says it’s not active. 🙁
