If you’ve come here via this New York Times story, welcome to MyShingle.com, a blog that’s been inspiring solo, small firm and aspiring solo lawyers since December 2002 as well as highlighting the good that we do and making sure that we have a voice in the issues that impact the legal profession.  I’m also the author of Solo by Choice: How to Be the Lawyer You Always Wanted to Be, the most up to date book of the starting-a-firm genre, that discusses why lawyers should consider starting a practice and how to leverage modern  trends like alternative billing, outsourcing, unbundling, alternative law firm structures and Internet and social media to bootstrap a successful 21st century practice.  I’ve also authored an ebook with Julie Tower Pierce on the Part Time Shingle and a book for the ABA,  co-authored with Nicole Black on Social Media for Lawyers coming out in March 2010 – first of its kind.  I’m not just an author and blogger, though – I’m a solo by choice myself at the Law Offices of Carolyn Elefant in Washington D.C.

Since I won’t have your attention for long, let me highlight some of my favorite posts from the past two years (there are many more before that!) that should give you a sense of MyShingle’s scope.  Thanks for stopping by!

I’ve been a solo for the 31 years since I left law school. Had Carolyn Elefant been around back then, I’d have known more, fretted less and put more money in the bank. Even now, I glean pearls from her website. She DOES rock. Honest.
