There can be a lot of ways for small firms to expand their operations. I liked your discussion of potential business strategies like tapping universities and outsourcing. Outsourcing is worth mentioning since it was able to effectively take part in almost all industries across the globe. Now, it's taking a new role by becoming a function specific provider.

Like outsourced lawyers providing consultations, another interesting trend is outsourcing small business payroll services. Through payroll (Nevada) firms and accounting companies, small businesses are able to get professional accountants and bookkeepers to handle their company information. They install a software that can easily balance ledgers, tax remittances and employee compensation. The efficiency of these providers makes them a very smart choice for business owners.

How incredibly depressing. I'm one of the unemployed who needs to work with a solo/small firm to get experience and maintain my skills.

It's been my experience that in a down economy, law students are thrilled to build their resume with externships. Get in touch with a professor who teaches in your practice area, and ask that person to spread the word. Solos, especially, are sought because we can offer "real" legal experience. My clerk's faculty supervisor is already asking if I can work with other students in future semesters.
