Multitask Your Marketing

As a solo or small law firm, you’re probably familiar with “the marketing cycle:”  Business is slow, so you throw your heart into marketing.  Business picks up, so you stop marketing.  Business slows down and there’s nothing in the pipeline because you let up on marketing.  And so on.

From reader Cindi Matt of  MattLegal in Buffalo, Minnesota comes one suggestion to stop the spiral.  Cindi purchased a decal for her laptop imprinted with her law firm name and URL.  She’s blocked out a few hours a week to spend in the coffee shop on her laptop, updating her blog and catching up on other marketing activities.  Cindi’s coffeehouse strategy disciplines her to keep her marketing efforts on track, while the imprinted laptop is a conversation starter that gives her added exposure.  Moreover, marketing and blogging are great coffeehouse activities because they don’t require the same kind of full on concentration as a brief or other client work product.

I believe that Cindi commissioned a local designer to prepare her decal imprint.  But I’ve also found companies like SkinIt and Gelaskins online where you can create your own (I can recommend Gelaskins, at least for premade skins; my daughters bought me a Monet skin for my first MacBook, which adhered perfectly, even after the machine died due to water damage).  If you know of any others, please let me know in the comments.

If you have a neat marketing idea worthy of sharing, please send it to us in the  Contact Section and I’d be happy to post it.

    Carolyn –

Yes, I used a local sign company to do the Matt Legal decal for less than $25.00. I like using local people/companies because they end up being a contact/referral source (more multi-tasking/marketing!).

Good ideas have legs. This was discussed four years ago and it’s just as powerful now if not more so in this mobile society. http://tinyurl.com/2c7om4u
