(Post updated November 9th, 2011 to reflect date change of event)

And it’s official – the second edition of Solo by Choice (2011-2012 Edition): How to Be the Lawyer You Always Wanted to Be is finally here! The new edition of Solo by Choice contains the same comprehensive advice on going and growing solo as the first version, along with updates on why to solo in the 21st Century, planning for solo practice in law school, how much solos earn compared to other lawyers and the rest of the population, alternative business models for law firms, outsourcing and new marketing ideas. Along with Solo by Choice, I’ve also edited the Companion Guide, a compendium of advice by 50 solos at all ages and stages of their career.

To celebrate the release, I’ll be hosting the first of many action-oriented events where you’ll not just learn about a practice management or marketing technique, but implement it as well. In our first event, Cold Calls, Cold Beer you’ll learn about the power of the cold call as a tool to jump start your practice and get you out to meet people. You’ll learn effective cold call techniques as well as how to organize your contacts and follow up afterwards. After a brief overview, we’ll take action and make a bunch of phone calls on the spot. When you’re done, hopefully you will have a couple of lunch dates or meetings set up with colleagues you’ve not seen or always wanted to meet – or perhaps even a referral or two! Finally, because cold calling can be demoralizing, after the event, we’ll walk over to a nearby bar for a drink after the event to trade stories about the biggest jerks and share successes as well.

The official launch event will be held November 18 November 30th (please note date change from November 18 to Nov. 30)  in Washington DC – though watch for future events in your city! To register, visit here.

    Carolyn,
Do you think you will offer this edition as a Kindle or e-book at some point?  While it is a tried excuse my first addition was consumed by my dog.  However, he has yet to eat my Kindle.

I was recently thinking about purchasing the first edition of ‘Solo by Choice’, so I’m very excited for the release of this new edition.  I’m looking forward to the updates dealing with soloing in the Great Recession/post-Great Recession world and soloing with current and emerging technologies.

Congrats on the new book, Carolyn! Much success!

Should be edition not addition, I will not blame that on the dog.
