FREE: First MyShingle Commingle: DC Solo, Small & Alternative Law Firms & Legal Tech November 18, 2013 – Reid Trautz to Speak on Rules and Tools for Remote Lawyer Offices and Collaboration

I am excited to announce the creation of the MyShingleCommingle – a meet-up group bringing together solo, small and alternative law practices (i.e., the new business models) with the legal technology companies that are developing the tools and platforms empowering law practices. In many ways, we are natural allies: we are essentially startups doing business in an industry dominated by large firms and large vendors. Thus, we can discuss the challenges of running small businesses in transforming times, share ideas on serving clients and marketing and figure out how to innovate while remaining within the boundaries of existing ethics requirements.

Yet while solo, small and alternative law firms and legal tech have much in common, there is often a huge disconnect. Lawyers struggle to keep pace with new developments while practicing law while many legal tech start-ups develop products that have little value to solo and small firms.  By meeting together, we can open up a dialogue between both constituencies.

And with that, I invite you to the inaugural event – November 18, 2013, 6:30 pm in Washington D.C. Our event will be hosted at 1400 Eye Street NW, Ste. 800 – the offices of Logikcull, developers of an incredibly cool cloud-based e-discovery platform.  (As an aside, earlier this week, Logikcull released a new pricing schedule for solos/and smalls, with a platform priced at $295/month  . There’s no subscription requirement, so users can activate the platform as needed for a case, and end the subscription when it’s no longer required).

The theme for our first meet up is Remote, inspired by the release of Remote: Office Not Required  by Jason Fried and David Heinemeir Hanson.  We’ll spend the first half of the event enjoying FREE FOOD & DRINK (courtesy of MyShingle.com and our sponsors) and getting to know each other.  After that, we’ll hear a talk from Reid Trautz (reidmyblog.com), a big name in solo/small firm circles in DC and national law practice management and technology guru (he’s a former head of  ABA Techshow) who will discuss Rules and Tools for Remote Lawyer Offices and Collaboration.

Whether or not you are interested in legal technology, this is a great opportunity to meet and network with other solo, small and alternative law firms, learn more about each other’s practices and identify opportunities for referrals and collaboration. In addition to FREE FOOD & DRINK, we’ll also have a couple of door prizes: 2 copies of Remote, 2 copies of my ebook, The Art Science & Ethics of the 21st Century Retainer Agreement and a copy of Solo by Choice: How to Be the Lawyer You Always Wanted to Be. For additional information and to RSVP, click here. Please try to RSVP as soon as you can.
