My Review of GC.AI: First in Class for Legal AI Tools
I’ve been meaning to review GC.AI for some time but never got around to it. In retrospect, I’m glad I waited, as I’m confident the tool has improved even more over the past few months. There’s so much to like about GC.AI that this review only scratches the surface.
Accessibility & Pricing
What immediately impressed me was the frictionless onboarding process. You can sign up for a free seven-day demo without providing credit card information or enduring sales calls. You simply dive in and explore the product.
Another standout feature is GC.AI’s flexible subscription model, offering both yearly and monthly options. This flexibility breaks away from the rigid subscription requirements of the Westlaw/Lexis duopoly. Solo practitioners and small firms can essentially use it on demand.
While I won’t disclose the exact cost here (it’s clearly displayed on their website), I will say that although it’s a premium product with a price tag that might seem steep for solos and small firms, it’s worth every penny.
Features I Tested
Document Comparison
I asked GC.AI to compare two versions of solar leases I handled for a client a year apart. It prepared a detailed table showing all discrepancies and provided a summary opinion on which contract better benefited my client. Unfortunately, I can’t share this example due to client confidentiality.
Dictation Capabilities
One feature that sets GC.AI apart from other legal applications is its built-in dictation functionality. In fact, I used GC.AI to dictate these very notes for this article. As AI becomes more prevalent, lawyers will likely transition from writing to speaking because it’s faster and more efficient. GC.AI is leading the way while other applications have fallen behind.
Prompt Library
GC.AI offers a library of standard prompts that you can use without having to craft them yourself. The transparency is refreshing—you can view exactly what’s being prompted. I used standard prompts both for the lease comparison mentioned earlier and to draft an AI policy, which turned out quite well considering I provided minimal details.
Legal Research
I tested GC.AI’s research capabilities by asking whether attorney communication or research on AI platforms is privileged. The results were comprehensive and well-sourced. An additional benefit is that you can easily download search results and sources for future reference.
Document Summarization
I asked GC.AI to summarize my law review article on AI and compared the results to ChatGPT. You decide which version is more professional and useful.
Word Add-in
GC.AI also offers a Word add-in that I’ve only recently begun exploring, which promises to integrate these powerful features directly into your document workflow.
Conclusion
GC.AI stands out as a first-in-class legal AI tool that delivers exceptional value for legal professionals. Its combination of user-friendly features, flexible pricing, and powerful capabilities makes it a standout option in the increasingly crowded legal tech space.
